Stutz Model 1:43
It seems many Stutzians have wanted a quality scale
model of the
Stutz Blackhawk
for almost as long as the cars have existed!
Sure, many own the mass-produced and tiny HotWheels
version,
but it's fair to consider this merely a toy!
And others may have the rare Renwal-Stutz,
but it too lacks detail and is not the same as the
'official' production Stutzes!
The world's most famous and collected scale for model-cars
is 1:43,
In fact, you can buy what seems like every make and
model!
Some are built in big numbers, for very little money,
and there are a lot of models of unique cars, built
by small companies in very limited series.
But there was still no Stutz!
In late 2005, Brooks Brown surprised me with an email,
stating that he found a modelmaker,
who is interested, willing, and able to produce a
model of a Stutz.
We discussed the idea, and decided that we should
start with the model of a Stutz Blackhawk,
looking like those, which were built between 1973,
and 1979.
The modelmaker told us that he will start working
on that project, as soon as we will have him 25 buyers.
The moulds for the model are good for about 55 models,
so the production is very limited.
So I started to contact some Stutzians, and within
two weeks, we had a list of 26 sold models.
These group was than called the "Club 26", a very
exclusive club.
Next to the fact that every member of that Club will
get a model, the good thing is that the members get a special price...
Now, the model prototype is in a stadium, that we can
do the next step:
placing detailed orders, but first, have a look at
the following photos...
Here are some pics, showing the progress on the model-prototype.
During the last weeks/months, a lot of work was done on "our" model of a Stutz Blackhawk.
As you can see, the modelmaker started with nothing, but some sheets of plastic.
You have to be an artist to build these details, just with some photos of the homepage.
Here you can see some additional details...
Still a lot of work is ahead...
In April 2007, I got the following pictures:
The prototype for the model is almost completed,
so the production can be started, soon.
In June 2007, the first bodies are done, and here's the first one with paint, waiting for the "chrome".
Each model will come with a VIN-plate, similar to the original Stutzes...
That's just a prototype.
The original model-VIN-plate will look similar, stating
the initials of the buyer, and the serial-number of the model.
I think it's the first time that there is a registry
for modelcars!
