At the Concorso
D'Eleganza Villa D'Este 2009, Bertone celebrated the European premiere
for the Bertone Mantide,
which was presented the very first time at the Shanghai
Motor Show, just one week earlier.
Based on a Corvette Z06 ZR1 with a 6.2-litre V8, and
647hp,
Bertone's Mantide shows more aggressive emotions in
design.
Jason Castriota, formerly working for Pininfarina,
for example responsible for the Rolls-Royce
Hyperion project,
now works for Bertone, and the Mantide was his first
project there.
The design produces 30% more downforce than the donor-Corvette,
and using light materials even reduces weight.
The Mantide is 100kg lighter than an original Corvette.
During the designing, and building of this prototype,
Bertone used YouTube, and Twitter for getting some publicity,
that's a new strategy in marketing a car like this.
Currently it is unknown if the car was produced for
a collector,
or if Bertone wants to find a buyer for the finished
car,
at least it is estimated that a new owner has to spend
about 1.5 million Euro...
